Neurology I

Name of module: Neurology I

Contact hours: Approximately 40 hours

Academic level: Foundation (basic level for first year undergraduate students)

(Level: relative difficulty, complexity, depth of study and autonomy required of a learner).

Aims of the module: 

To provide Chiropractic students in their first year of study with that knowledge of the gross anatomy and physiology of the central nervous system to enable them to understand the neurological elements within their subsequent clinical practice.

Time commitment (academic session 2009/10):

  • approximately 3 hours teaching per week (over 13 weeks)
  • office hours for students 1 hours per week (over 13 weeks)
  • preparation in advance of teaching sessions
  • preparation of draft assessments and marking
  • attendance at Exam Committees and staff-development sessions (approximately 20 hours in the year)

Requirements for the teacher for Neurology I:

  • Educated at degree level in a relevant field of study (ideally chiropractic).
  • Has a strong interest in chiropractic. It is essential that the neurology teacher is willing to teach/develop this module in close collaboration with the chiropractic department.
  • It will be essential that the teacher for Neurology I can also teach the module Neurology II offered in the second year of the programme of study (15 ECTS).
