Job title: Principal
The Schola
Chiropractica Barcelona (SCB) will open its doors in October 2009 in
Barcelona for the education and training of chiropractors. The college will provide a supportive and
challenging learning environment for an international student community (programme delivered first two years in Spanish and English, and the remaining three years in English). The SCB has strong links
with the chiropractic community in Spain, Europe and overseas and will apply to
the European Council on Chiropractic Education (ECCE) for accreditation. It has
established strong academic links with local universities and will rely on a
number of both local and international teachers to deliver a five-year
programme of studies. The programme is
divided into an undergraduate cycle (3 years) and a postgraduate cycle (2 years),
the latter will be delivered in collaboration with the Universitat Pompeu Fabra,
one of the top universities in Spain. The college aims to become an educational leader in the provision of
chiropractic education in the world and to play a key role in the recognition
and regulation of chiropractic in Spain where, at present, there is only one
other chiropractic college (located in Madrid).

This full-time post will effectively start in
September 2009 although it is desirable that the person appointed becomes
involved with some aspects of the development of the college from January 2009
(in collaboration with educational consultants and academic staff) in order to
better undertake his/her duties at the commencement of the appointment (level
of commitment from January 2009 to September 2009 to be agreed).
The ideal candidate will have previous
experience in a similar position, have knowledge and understanding of health
science education (preferably chiropractic), have excellent communication and
leadership skills and be fluent in both Spanish and English. Salary will be negotiated based upon experience and strength of candidate.

The Principal must ensure that the college
provides a challenging environment in which to learn where attitudes of
critical appraisal are engendered and contribute to the generation of new
knowledge and that research is actively pursued by facilitating the relationship

The Principal should engage with other higher
education institutions, the European Council for Chiropractic Education, the
chiropractic community in Spain (Asociación Española Quiropráctica) and
governmental institutions in Cataluña and Spain to collaborate strategically
and operationally to bring positive benefits.
